Barbara Drury, owner of Manilow’s Doggie Daycare first discovered the Gale River Motel back in 2003 and has been making anannual pilgrimages to the area since 2003. In addition to calling the Gale River Motel – “Home” during these treks, she has also traveled north to St. Johnsbury, Vermont to visit Dog Mountain, a very special place where dogs and dog-lovers will find the famous “Dog Chapel” and the Art Gallery featuring the work of Stephen Huneck, author of the “Sally” series of children’s books.
In 2012, Barb decided to plan a weekend road trip to the region for her daycare customers; selecting the Gale River Motel as her lodging venue, planning hikes to trails in the Franconia Notch , and a visit to Dog Mountain. Weekend activities included a cookout, bonfires, and a numerous canine adventures for those who attended.
In 2008, Barb’s beloved Manilow passed over the rainbow bridge. Because of Barb’s passion for her dogs and the dogs she cares for each day; the Gale River Motel staff dedicated a memorial garden at the entrance to the dog walk in remembrance of Manilow and all of the pets who have visited the Gale River Motel over the years and passed on leaving cherished memories with those who cared and loved them through their years.
The trek in 2016 marks the sixth annual outing sponsored by Manilow’s Doggie Daycare and each year, those attending celebrate the friendship of those who share that very special bond between human and canine.
